The Department of State Services (DSS) in Ogun State has arrested Ladi Adebutu, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
According to Daily Post, Adebutu’s arrest is linked to last Saturday’s local government election in Ogun State. He is alleged to have brought 40 “illegal policemen” from MOPOL 49 in Lagos to the state on the election day.
Additionally, he was accused of moving around the Ikenne Local Government Area with PDP thugs riding motorcycles, attempting to snatch ballot boxes while brandishing guns and other weapons.Confirming the arrest, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, stated that Adebutu was detained on unspecified charges. Efforts to secure his bail as of 10 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, had been unsuccessful.
Adebayo said, “The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party has indeed been detained by the DSS on charges yet to be disclosed. Several attempts have been made to secure his bail, either on personal recognition or through a surety, but none has yielded results so far. His legal team has been informed and will address the matter by Tuesday morning.”
“Our principal has urged calm and assured all party members, supporters, and well-wishers that this is a temporary challenge and part of the sacrifices for our democracy,” Adebayo added.
