Wole Soyinka criticizes Tinubu’s ommission of Police attacks on protesters

 

Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, has expressed disappointment with President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide address, which failed to address the attacks on #EndBadGovernance protesters by security agencies

Wole Soyinka’s statement highlighted the continued deterioration of the state’s handling of protests, which he believes emboldens security forces to act with impunity.

Soyinka emphasized the need for alternative models of security intervention, citing the 2022/23 YELLOW VEST movement in France as an example of peaceful policing.He urged the nation’s security agencies to abandon lethal means and instead exercise the will to transform their response to civic society.

The #EndBadGovernance protests, now in their fourth day, have seen demonstrators express frustration over economic hardship, poverty, and ineffective governance.
