  • Update on the accident that killed 2 at IMSU juction, here’s what really happened
  •
At least two persons lost their lives, with another person taken to the emergency unit of an undisclosed hospital after a truck rammed into a tricycle at the Imo State University (IMSU) Junction on the Owerri-Okigwe Expressway on Monday.
Eyewitnesses told Punch at the scene of the auto crash on Tuesday that one of the victims, identified as Kelechi, was until her death an employee of the Imo Civil Guard, a state-owned security formation.
According to one of the sources, Kelechi, a traffic officer posted to IMSU Junction, had closed from her shift and boarded a tricycle to her residence when the trailer rammed into the tricycle.

It was learnt that the driver of the heavy duty vehicle without a number plate, which was coming into the state capital from Okigwe, had lost control and hit the commercial tricycle in motion.
While two passengers died on the spot, another one was injured.
A source said, “The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle. It was unfortunate that the only object closest to him was the tricycle which he rammed the vehicle into.
“Two persons, including a worker with the Imo Civil Guard, were killed. The third victim has been hospitalised.”
According to him, out of fear of being attacked, the driver of the truck abandoned his vehicle and fled.
The police spokesperson in the state, Andrew Enwerem, could not be reached for comments.
