Emotions gave in as family members and friends were in tears as they gathered to mark one week of the demise of Captain Maxwell Mahama, who was lynched by a mob on suspicion of being an armed robber.

Yen News reports that the air was filled with so much grief, leaving many who were at his family house in tears.

The remembrance was attended by notable Ghanaian personalities.

Mahama is survived by his mother, wife and two children

The families of the deceased said he would be buried on Friday, June 9.

Prior to the one-week remembrance, the Christian Council of Ghana had warned pastors to abstain from offering spiritual explanation for Mahama’s death.

The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has cautioned his fellow pastors to desist from offering spiritual explanations for Mahama’s death.

According to him, the families of the soldier were going through a difficult period; as such, pastors should be mindful of making insinuations about his death.

The Christian Council’s warning followed the remarks by the leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Prophet Owusu Bempah, who alleged that God told him that the captain’s death was spiritually linked to some ‘bad seeds’ left behind by the ex-President John Dramani Mahama administration for the incumbent Akufo-Addo government.

The family of the late Captain Mahama had described Prophet Owusu Bempah’s comments as lies.
