The
senator representing Kogi west, Dino Melaye says he has accepted the
Senate's resolution to investigate the allegation that he does not have a
university degree, saying that no senator is above investigation.
Outspoken All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Dino
Melaye, has said that he has accepted the Senate’s resolution to
investigate the allegation that he does not have a university degree,
even though he has seven, and is in the process of bagging the eighth.
It was gathered that during the plenary on Tuesday, the senator
representing Borno south, Ali Ndume, moved a motion that the matter be
investigated to clear Melaye and Senate President Bukola Saraki, who was
accused of importing an SUV into the country with fake customs papers.
Ndume told his colleagues that; “In the PUNCH of today, page 16
and with your permission I will want to lay it and it says ‘Dino Melaye
in first degree certificate scandal’ and it goes on and on.
“I will therefore appeal to the senate to investigate and our
colleagues will be cleared and this senate will stand as it suppose to.”
The motion was further referred to the committee on ethics to investigate the allegation.
While speaking with journalists after plenary, the senator representing Kogi west, said no senator is above investigation. “We welcome the development. It will finally clear the air of all malicious allegations,” Melaye told journalists.
“Sahara reporters are obsessed with me. They use me for
marketing and whenever their profile and patronage is down they use me
to generate traffic. I will not be surprised if by tomorrow Sahara
reporters say that I am not a Nigerian.
“To say that I did not graduate from Ahmadu Bello University
(ABU) Zaria is to say that I am not a senator of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria.”
