Just In: INEC Has Decided to Go Ahead with Edo Guber Election Despite Warnings

The Saturday, September 10's upcoming governorship election in Edo State which was expected to be postponed after security warnings by Police and DSS, will probably go ahead as planned by INEC.

We reported it on Wednesday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was urged by the the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to postpone Saturday’s governorship election in Edo state.

While speaking at a news conference in Abuja, Don Awunah, the police spokesman, and Garba Abdullahi, an agent of the DSS‎, disclosed that security concerns was the reason for the request.

“The Nigeria police and the DSS wish to inform the general public that credible intelligence availed to the agencies indicate plans by insurgent/extremist elements to attack vulnerable communities and soft targets with high population during the forthcoming Sallah celebrations between 12 and 13 September, 2016. Edo state is among the states being earmarked for these planned attacks by the extremists elements," part of a statement had read.

Just as Nigerians await for the official announcement of the postponment by INEC in regards to the advise by the security agencies, saharaReporters has exclusively revealed that the nation's election governing body, has decided to go ahead with the scheduled Saturday, September 10 guber election in the state.
