EFCC Arrests Ebonyi Speaker Over Alleged N60m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arrested the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Ogbonnaya Francis Nwaifuru, over an alleged misappropriation of N60million constituency project fund.

The lawmaker, who represents Izzi West state constituency in the Ebonyi State Assembly, allegedly diverted and misappropriated the said sum of N60m constituency project fund before his emergence as the speaker.








As at the time of filling this report, the speaker was still being questioned by operatives of the Commission.

An EFCC source told THISDAY that the Ebonyi House Speaker was picked up around 11am at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, by operatives of the Commission, after he had spurned two previous invitations from the agency.

EFCC stated that Nwaifuru was first invited on 20th October 2015 to appear before the Enugu zonal office of the Commission but he did not respond to the invitation.

A reminder letter was sent to him on November 19, 2015, which he also failed to honour.
