  • The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin has sought for additional assistance from Pakistan towards man power development and capabilities against IEDs to enable it degrade the capacity of insurgents in the North East. This assistance would be in addition to Pakistani’s supply of military equipment since the inception of insurgency in the country.








    General Olonisakin made this call at the Defence Headquarters during a courtesy call by the Pakistan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lieutenant General Agher Farooq. He stated that, with both countries sharing similarities in history, problems and insurgency matters, Nigerian military would benefit from Pakistani’s experiences in counter insurgency and terrorism initiative as well as leverage on the relationship to acquire the necessary platforms.
    He noted that counter insurgency is a long drawn operation, hence the military would continue to interface with friendly and allied nations to ensure that the military get the required equipment.
    In his earlier remarks, lieutenant General Farooq commended the Nigerian government and the military for their approach in the fight against terrorism and insurgency. He explained that, both Pakistan and Nigeria have been caught up in similar challenges which necessitated for more formidable collaboration.
    He claimed the aim of the visit was to bridge communication gap between the two counties and to reignite the strong mutual goodwill of cordial cooperation between both nations as well as military establishments.
