Borno state Governor, Hon. Kashim Shettima stated that it has become necessary for the state to have its own University to help get the state out of the educational backwardness it has suffered over the years. He also stated that the sum of four hundred and seventy million Naira would be released this week to enable contractors proceed with the work at the site.
Shettima blamed the Boko Haram menace the state is suffering on the absence of education among the youths.He said that the reconstitution of the committee became necessary due to the demise of its former Chairman Late Prof. Nur Alkali.
A technical committee with members extracted from the University of Maiduguri and other institutions of higher learning in the state are already nurturing the project.
The committee is chaired by Professor Abubakar Mustapha who has also expressed worry about the inability of indigenes to favourably compete with admission requirements with applicants from other parts of the country.
