China has been plagued with smog which has covered many cities since
Saturday evening. The capital city, Beijing, even issued its first red
alert for the especially heavy air pollution this Monday with schools
suspended and people advised to stay indoors.
To reduce dust and dissipate smog, Jinan in Shandong Province and Changsha in the central Hunan Province used water cannons to spay water into the air above the streets. The cannon can be loaded up with 9 tons of water and spray mist for around ninety minutes. The mist can be sprayed up to a height of 40 meters with the aim of breaking down pollution particles and dust in the air.
