Horrific storms and flash floods in south-east France have killed 19
people, left thousands of homes without electricity and stranded
hundreds of holidaymakers. Entire roads were worn away by waves of muddy
water which destroyed peoples' homes, washed away cars and caused
widespread travel disruption across the once-pristine region of the
French Riviera.
There are fears the death toll could rise even higher as fire crews and ambulances have struggled to reach the worst-affected areas, where 35,000 homes are without power. French President Francois Hollande met with the residents whose houses and lives were destroyed by the natural disaster, today, as ambulance workers began collecting the bodies of those it killed.
