In a very touching moment, Enze, a four-month-old Chinese baby boy who
is recovering from a surgery to repair his imperforate anus, made a
victory sign to the camera on Sunday. When Enze was born, doctors
discovered he had what’s known as an imperforate anus or anorectal
malformation, which left him unable to excrete by himself. As a result,
the newborn lost a dangerous amount of weight, weighing only two
kilograms.
Since his parents are both migrant workers, the family couldn’t afford the huge medical costs for corrective surgery. That, combined with Enze’s critical condition, finally pushed them to seek help from the public.
They eventually received over 100,000 yuan in donations from around the country, and a set of free surgeries promised by Shanxi Children’s Hospital. On August 5, little Enze successfully went through his first surgery. He has regained 1.2 kilograms by now. The hospital says the baby is expected to leave the hospital next week.
