The immediate past Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin has said he was once shot at 57
times while serving as the boss of the Corps.
Dr. Abolurin disclosed this
while giving his testimony at a thanks giving service organized to mark his
successful retirement from service on Sunday at the National Christian Center.
He said he was attacked several
times both physically and spiritually during his tenure as the Commandant
General of the NSCDC but that an incident where 57 bullets were shot at him at
close range stood out.
"There was a day while
traveling to Plateau State, I was attacked, two grenades were fired into my car
while sporadic shots were fired at my car.
"My driver was shot dead.
When the car finally stopped gunmen surrounded me pointing their guns at me.
Someone gave them the directive to shoot and they started shooting at me but
none of the bullets penetrated me," he narrated.
Abolurin added that the
assailants took to their heels afterwards but 57 bullets were counted inside
the vehicle and 105 outside the car when help eventually came.
He also gave testimony of how
God saved him from a Bellview plane crash when the pilot announced that he had
lost control, saying that when he prayed to God, all the occupants of the plane
were saved because of him.
The former NSCDC CG recalled
that he took charge of an organisation that was full of "herbalists",
adding that there was always a head of an animal used as sacrifice at one point
or the other within the office premises but God gave him the grace to survive
all the attacks.
He therefore called on
Christians to get closer to God as he remains the only weapon of their defence
against enemies.
In his remarks, Deputy
Secretary of the Cristian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Barr. Jayeola
Daramola described Dr. Abolurin as a dependable Christian, who served the
nation in his capacity as the CG of NSCDC honestly.
