At least 44 people were killed after twin blasts rocked Jos city in
central Nigeria on Sunday night, officials and eyewitnesses say. The
first attack targeted a crowded mosque and the second happened at a
popular restaurant. Militant Islamist group Boko Haram is suspected to
have carried out the attack.
Eyewitnesses say the attack by suspected Boko Haram militants seemed to have targeted the cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahya Jingir, who had condemned the group's activities in the past. Another blast near the university targeted people breaking their fast in a popular restaurant, killing 23 people.
