  • Thugs Attack PDP Lawmaker-Elect In Osun
  • What would be regarded as mayhem occurred in Osun state when hoodlums attacked a lawmaker-elect from Ife East Constituency, Mr. Akinwole Akinwale.
According to reports, the issuance of certificate of return to the lawmaker-elect was said to be the reason for his attack.
In a report published by Punch, it was gathered that the horrible scene occurred when the lawmaker-elect was about to leave the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mr. Akinwale was accosted by some miscreants who prevented him from leaving the venue.
The incident will get grosser as the attack on the Mr. Akinwale led to a heated brawl at the gate of the INEC office.

The crisis was however quickly resolved with the arrival of the police but while speaking with Punch, Mr. Akinale alleged that the attackers were sent by a former commissioner from Ife.

He said he had been told that he would not be allowed to collect the certificate of return. He said, “I was attacked by some boys who said the former commissioner  had said I should not be allowed to take the certificate.  I was told he asked them to shoot me if I insisted on collecting it.
“I was attacked while coming out of the INEC office and they tore my clothes. The policemen who were there tried to rescue me and I was ferried out of the place in the Speaker’s car.”

Speaking just before the incident, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, advised the lawmakers-elect to set aside their political differences and work together to move the state forward.

The REC urged the legislators-elect not to betray the trust reposed in them by the electorate.
Responding, the lawmakers-elect said they were ready to work for the development of the state irrespective of their party affiliation.
However, the post-election period has been marred by violence as you will recall that only recently, gunmen abducted the council Chairman of Ogbia local government in Bayelsa State, Mr. Enaye Abah. Ogbia is the local government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Meanwhile, a former speaker of Osun state House of Assembly, Mojeed Alabi, has announced his intention to replace the incumbent speaker of the House of Representatives and governor-elect of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal.
