EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: I am not a Lesbian; Joy Akosa Talks More About Herself

A lady with a lot of courage and ambition, an entrepreneur, a young and fierce lady with lot of potentials, and who are we talking about? Brilliant Journalist and publicist to comedian Klint DA Drunk, Joy Akosa. Joy Akosa is the CEO of popular news website, 'Joy Akosa's Corner'. In this exclusive interview with Report Naija, the 21years old lady discusses her passion and other personal things we need to know about her. 

How did Joy Akosa's Corner come about?

Well, i don't even know how it started(laughs). I did my SIWES, which is the student industrial work experience scheme in a newspaper called 'National Daily' I was there as an entertainment reporter, later I joined the Source Magazine for my One year I.T. All these while, I gathered a lot of experience in news writing and reporting. I later joined an online news media 'Nigeriafilms.com' and I can tell you, Nigeriafilms made me what I am today, I gathered all the experience I needed and I feel in love with journalism, I made up my mind while I was leaving there that I would never work for anybody again, I want to be my own boss. So that's how JAC came about. 

You were operating a blog before, but later you moved to a website?

Yes, my blog was hacked, I don't know who decided to that, but it was the beginning of my challenges as a boss, but I decided not to operate on a blog again, so I built a website. 

You are still a student, how come have you managed to combine these two?

Hmmm, well, it has been the grace of God all through, I am in my 300level now and I have a lot of school work to take care of, but any spare time or any little break I have, I use that to update my website. 

Do you see other bloggers as competition?

Never, we are all here looking for how to be better in life, so nobody is my competition, life itself is enough headache, why would you want to add another headache by being concerned about someone else's progress. I see them as people I look up to and I am sure in fee years from now, I would be better than them. 

How do your parents take this your working and schooling?

I won't call this working, because to me it is not work, though I get paid from advertisements and all but to me it is not work for now, maybe when I graduate I can see this as work. I have the most wonderful parents in the world, they have supported me all through, because I make money, doesn't mean they don't still pay my bills, they do it a lot and ask me to keep my own money. My father is my greatest fan, in fact he monitors my website more than I do. 

Do you have time for fun at all?

Fun ke? I can't even remember the last time I had fun, like I said before, I am still in school, so any free moment I have off school work, I prefer to stay with my computer. 

Am sure you are not married, are you looking at it in few years time?

Haba, of course na, but certainly not now, when the time comes, it would be made public, but now, it is not even in my agenda this year, but it might start being my priority next year. Am married to my career.

Do you have friends at all? Because you don't have time for fun.

I have of course, in fact I have the most amazing friends in the world, they understand where I am going, what am doing, when u say I am busy, they know what that means, they don't take it to heart, because they know where I am going. 

You tend to give out gifts on your website from time to time, is that you are very rich?

(Laughs) you don't have to be rich before you give out gifts, it is just a token of my appreciation, without my awesome readers I won't be here today. 

What is your take on teenage pregnancy?

Pregnancy is from God but through the help of man, being pregnant even as a married woman stops you from doing a lot of things, you tend to be weak more, you take leave, you fall sick, you are not as active before, not to talk of teenage pregnancy. It is the beginning of a tough road, I believe as a teenager, there are more Priority you should have than men. You shouldn't dash your dreams because a man is chasing you to him, any man that cannot wait till you are old enough, is the devil God has been asking you to pray against. The best thing is to abstain. 

You look older than your age, how come is that?

I can't answer that ooo, I don't know, I just clocked 21, but majority of people don't believe me, I don't know why, but all I can say is that, God knows it all. 

News came online late last year that you are a lesbian, can you clarify that?
I am not a lesbian and I have never thought of being one, people just come online and write unconfirmed stories, bloggers of these days are so lazy and they look for worthless news to write about. I never wanted to reply those allegations because Klint asked me not to, it was another breakthrough for me, because I became more popular.
 

How do you cope with male folks?

They are just there, what has helped me is that I make them know I have someone who cares about me more than they do. I don't like bringing my personal life online. But I make sure they know what someone is there who knows it all better than you. 

Your fashion and style life?

I am not a fashionable person, I don't have time for fashion, I just like being myself and being simple.

Am sure you have a male companion, how does he take your job?

He is wonderful, understanding and my number one fan, he met me doing the media thing and he loves it. In fact he is my manager, he knows what he is in for, he practically forces me to go and work. He takes the site seriously than I do. 

Advice to young entrepreneurs?

Be focused, do your own thing, so not let anyone take control of your time, according to my boss at Nigeriafilms, he would say, when you are very good at what you do, you will call the shots. Be your own boss, he who takes control of your time, controls your destiny. The future is so beautiful up there.
