  • One Dead, 11 Injured In APC Campaign Auto Crash In Edo
  • The campaign organization of the All Progressive Congress in Edo state, was yesterday involved in a motor accident which lead to the death of one member and left 11 others injured.

    The campaign team was travelling to Okada, in Ovia North East LGA of the state for rally when the bus had a head-on collusion with a car that had the posters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency, daughter of the Esama of Benin, Miss Omosede Igbinedion.

    In response to the incident, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, immediately ordered for the cancellation of the campaign rally in honour of the victims.

    Deputy Governor of the state, Pius Odubu, and the former Minister of State for Works, Chris Ogienwonyi, described the incident as shocking and painful.

    Odubu said, “It is a very sad moment for us, losing one of our members and 11 others are in the hospital. We were supposed to have rallies at Egor and Ovia but when this incident happened the Comrade Governor called that the rallies be cancelled in honour of the victims.

    “We are praying for others who are still in the hospital receiving treatment. For now, we have suspended our campaigns.”

    Also speaking on the incident, Ogienwonyi said: “It is quite a sad moment for the party and for all of us. Nobody anticipated this as we all woke up this morning ready for the campaigns and it was devastating when we heard this news.

    “Some of us were still on our way to the venue when we were informed that the Comrade Governor ordered for the
    cancellation of the rally in honour of the victims.

    “That was a good decision and he is a governor that cares about his people and we know that he must be
    devastated right now. But as humans, there is nothing we can do than to pray to Almighty God to receive the soul of the deceased, and quick recovery for those still at the hospital.”
