On top of this, excuse the pun, the researchers discovered that the "doggy-style" position, with women on all fours, is behind 29 per cent of incidences.
For those who aren't clear on a penile fracture, it's classed as a medical emergency and it's essentially when the string connecting the foreskin to the penis snaps, which can lead to swelling, blood, erectile dysfunction, sitting out of the game for potentially months etc. etc.
The survey was taken out by Brazilian doctors and academics who wanted to investigate "dangerous sex". Over 13 years, they looked at patients attending A&E with suspected penile fractures. The average age of patients was 34-years-old, with half of them reporting hearing a crack before experiencing pain.
The researchers concluded: "Our study supports the fact that sexual intercourse with 'woman on top' is the potentially riskiest sexual position related to penile fracture."
But don't worry ladies, you don't have to return to lying like a starfish to avoid a broken penis, the scientists admitted that the condition is rare. They described the injury as being a "relatively uncommon clinical condition that frequently causes fear and embarrassment for the patient".
With this in mind, just make sure you play (relatively) safe.
